Bloemfontein - David Fourie testified in the Bloemfontein regional court today in Jaco du Toit's trial for the murder of Michael Jacobs.
He said that Jacobs just wanted to have a good night out with friends on the night when he was shot dead at point blank range.
Du Toit, a former police officer, stands accused of killing Jacobs on the night of November 8, 2014, close to the local Pub Stop bar.
Jacobs was allegedly shot five times and succumbed to his wounds on the scene.
Du Toit faces charges of murder and attempted murder. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
OFM News' Mark Steenbok reports that according to eye witnesses, a huge fight broke out between the deceased and the accused before gun shots were heard.
The court heard that Jacobs just wanted to have a good night out with friends on the evening of his passing.
State witness and friend of the deceased, David Fourie, testified that a huge fight broke out between the deceased and the accused, moments before Du Toit allegedly shot Jacobs in his chest point blank. Fourie alleged that Jacobs confronted Du Toit on his bike as Du Toit was leaving the Pub Stop. A fight broke out and warning shots were fired by Du Toit.
It is still unclear exactly what sparked the fight.
The hearing resumes tomorrow at 10:00.
