NC: Teenager in court for allegedly stabbing teacher to death | News Article

The police in the Northern Cape says a 15-year old boy who allegedly stabbed a teacher to death in Mothibistad in Kuruman this past weekend is expected to appear in court again on January 22.

Police spokesperson, Dimakatso Mooi, says the grade 8 learner, who was arrested on Saturday, made his first appearance in the Local Magistrate’s Court today. She says the case was remanded for further investigation.

Mooi says the minor allegedly went to the teacher’s residence on Saturday where he started pelting the windows with stones.

“As the victim came out to try to speak to him, he allegedly then stabbed the teacher. The victim died on the scene. The suspect was taken to a place of safety in Upington as he is still a minor,” says Mooi.

She says the motive for the murder is not yet known.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Department of Education in the province, Geoffrey van der Merwe, says the department condemns the incident in the strongest terms and offers its condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased.

The MEC for Education in the Northern Cape, Martha Bartlett, is scheduled to visit the school on Thursday.
