The Tempe Airport has acknowledged that an incident did occur on their landing strip on Saturday afternoon at around 1pm.

Safety and Quality Manager at the Westline Aviation, Thomas Honiball, confirms the incident and told OFM News that he attended to the matter.

Honiball says that it was a pilot with a PPL (Private Pilot License) who rented a private plane from the Tempe Airport. He says the woman took two of her friends for a scenic flight. Honiball tells OFM News when she landed she overshot the runway. He says that no injuries were reported, however, the aircraft has some damage to it. He says at this stage it is unclear if the plane will be a write-off or not.

Meanwhile, OFM News earlier reported a source said a woman without her pilot's license crashed on the Tempe airport outside of Bloemfontein.

The source told OFM News that the wheel of the plane came loose during landing, whereafter the plane crashed when hitting the ground. Emergency medical services were rushed to the scene.

OFM News is awaiting a response from the South African Civil Aviation Authority.
