The DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, says ANC Secretary-General and former Free State premier, Ace Magashule, together with other ANC leaders should be ashamed of the millions syphoned out of the Free State to enrich the controversial Gupta family.

Maimane statement comes just a day after it was revealed that the Office of the Free State Premier has spent over R79 million on the Gupta-owned newspaper, The New Age. He says taking into account that the Free State is home to the ANC and that it was established in this province, it is appalling that ANC leaders had the audacity to syphon millions out of this province while community members continue to live in poverty.

Maimane has referred to several corruption allegations that occurred during Magashule's tenure and said the time has come for this province to prioritise its people.

Addressing members of the party at the controversial Old Ramkraal Prison which has been left dilapidated with over R120 million unaccounted for, Maimane condemned alleged corruption activities taking place in the Free State.

He further reminded his party members and communities members of the R250 million that has been looted out of the Free State Agriculture Department for the Vrede Dairy project.

"The Free State has become home to corrupt leaders who see self-enrichment opportunities. So, the time has come to put an end to this".

Maimane says the scandals in the Free State indicate how deep-rooted state capture and corruption are. He adds that the DA is going to lay charges against the Free State Office of the Premier for spending the R79.3 million on TNA.

Maimane further reiterates that there remains a high need for all ANC top leaders to appear before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry.
