Murdered #VredeDairy farmer's cell phone only item missing─── PULANE CHOANE 15:19 Mon, 22 Oct 2018
Police in the Free State confirmed that the cell phone of murdered farmer in Vrede, Philemon Ngwenya, is missing.
This is according to provincial police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, who told OFM News that while no items were stolen from his shack where his body was found, his cell phone is missing. Ngwenya’s body was found in his shack at the Knelvlei farm, just outside Vrede. He was last seen alive on Wednesday afternoon.
Mophiring said it was only on Friday when a passer-by saw the bakkie of the deceased in the veld, that the passer-by realised something suspicious was going on. The passer-by then attempted to call the deceased, only to reach the voicemail messaging service which further prompted suspicions. The passer-by called the family of the deceased. Family members went to the farm where they, on their arrival, found his brutally battered body inside the shack.
The family of the deceased then reported the incident to the police at about 20:30 on Friday 19 October and a case of murder was registered. “It emerged that the deceased and other livestock owners from Thembalihle, Vrede, kept their stock at Knelvlei Farm, which is provided by the local municipality,” police said. Ngwenya apparently put up a shack at the farm so as to look after his stock. The motive behind the killing is not yet known and anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) should please contact Vrede police at (058) 913-8501/2.
