Eight in Christiana Magistrate's Court for taking teachers hostage | News Article

Christiana - Eight people will appear in the Christiana Magistrate's Court today for allegedly taking a school principal and some teachers hostage. North West police spokesperon Wilmarie van der Merwe says the eight were part of a group of 500 people who held a school principal and some teachers hostage at Lerona High School on Friday. She says the group locked themselves inside the school premises and locked the principal and some teachers in an office. The police were called, and when they opened the locked gate, pupils pelted stones at them. In return the police fired rubber bullets and arrested eight people. No injuries were reported. Last year the ANC Youth League and the Young Communist League complained to the district office about the principal and the school management team.
