Vodacom resolves network outage glitch─── 09:17 Thu, 28 Jan 2016

Johannesburg - Vodacom on Thursday said it had resolved “a technical glitch” in the network, which left many subscribers unable to access data services and experiencing difficulty making voice calls.
Vodacom’s network went down just before lunchtime on Wednesday.
Vodacom’s executive head of corporate affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe, on Thursday said the network provider picked up the problem from social media conversations and quickly resolved it.
Ramodibe said Vodacom experienced a technical failure on one of their prepaid systems in Pretoria, which affected certain prepaid subscribers nationally. The fault affected data and recharge services.
Ramodibe said the fault was resolved Wednesday.
“Our network coverage was disturbed during one of our routine software upgrades that went down and affected data connectivity and recharge services for prepaid customers,” Ramoribe said.
“We are happy to report that the incident has been resolved and extend an apology to all affected customers for any inconvenience caused.”
Down Detector, which monitors technology failures, said 42% of Vodacom users had no internet connectivity, while 38% faced issues making and receiving calls and 19% faced total blackout of services.
