Eastern Cape farmer murdered, wife serious but stable─── 12:23 Mon, 25 Jul 2016
Aliwal North - Police are searching for one suspect following the murder of a farmer at Steynsburg, in the North Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson Ursula Roelofse has named the deceased as 45-year-old Brendt Gibbons.
She says a farmer on a neighbouring farm was notified by Gibbons' wife, Willlemien, at around 20:00 last night that an intruder had shot her husband several times in the kitchen doorway while he was on his way to switch off a water pump.
Roelofse says as soon as the suspect saw Willemien, he shot her as well before fleeing the scene on foot.
The Gibbons' three young daughters aged three, five and eight are being cared for by a couple on a neighbouring farm.
