Port Elizabeth - A well-known family in the Mohair industry has shattered its previous world record price for Mohair.

OVK/CMW said in a statement that Billy and Fred Colborne of the Colborne Angora Stud in Willomore received a whopping R859 p/kg for their mohair offering at this week’s Ermenegildo Zegna special mohair auction. The previous record price of R850.50/kg was set by the Colborne’s in 2014.

Manager of Mohair at CMW, Pierre van der Vyver, says 19 bales were entered into the competition to determine the best bale of kid mohair in the world.

The second best price of R770.00/kg went to Piet Viljoen of Kleinpoort in the Eastern Cape.

This auction was also the first to be hosted at the new Mohair Head-quarters in Port Elizabeth. Van der Vyfer says there was superb attendance from both local producers and global rolelayers.
