Port Elizabeth - Although dramatic strengthening of the Rand has placed some pressure on Mohair prices, market players are still satisfied with recent auction prices.

The OVK/CMW Mohair Market Report states that the fifth mohair sale of the 2016 winter selling season sold quite successfully. This coming on the back of political turmoil in South Africa, as well as the strengthening of the Rand by over 5% against most international currency’s in the hours following the retraction of the court case against the Minister of Finance.

Adult and kid hair both sold out with the market indicator unchanged at R259.49/kg and R162.47/kg respectively. The price of young goat hair decreased 1.5% for a market indicator of R221.37 p/kg.

There are only two sales left for the season, with the penultimate sale pegged to be larger than normal with excellent quality product on offer.
