Motlhabane was addressing hundreds of farmers who attended the 11th Provincial Extension and Advisory services held in Potchefstroom this week. Motlhabane said, with digitalisation gaining momentum, there is an urgent need to transform and digitalise the sector, to achieve specific national development initiatives as envisaged in the Agricultural Policy Action Plan and the National Development Plan.

The department of Agriculture and Rural Development in the Free State believes the integrated Food Security and Nutrition strategy, launched across various municipalities over the last few weeks, will help in fighting poverty in the province. This comes after the department launched yet another Food Security and nutrition strategy in Thaba 'Nchu on Thursday. The department says the purpose of the strategy is to create awareness about the importance of producing food,  and to also find a way to produce enough food for everyone - particularly with high employment rate in the province. Food Security Manager in the Free State, Crista Klinck, told OFM News it is critically important to bring all the role players - from municipal to provincial level, as well as different departments and other stakeholder - together, to intensify the efforts to fight poverty through food security. On Monday a Food Security and Nutrition strategy was also launched in Bothaville.
