Harrismith without water despite flooding─── 13:51 Fri, 15 Jan 2021
Many residents and businesses in Harrismith in the Free State have been without water since New Year’s Day and are desperate for answers from the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality.
DA spokesperson Leona Kleynhans tells OFM News the inaccessible water is due to the municipality being unable to settle its debt of more than R5 billion. The resulting and ongoing electricity outages then largely impact the water pumping stations and water treatment plants of the municipality, leaving the residents with no water.
Eskom spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha tells OFM News that they are doing everything they can to assist customers and municipalities, however, it’s time for the Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality to step up and find ways to settle its debt.
