NW Mayor, Speaker may face motion of no confidence | News Article

Tswaing Local Municipality Mayor Lydia Malwane, and Speaker Phemelo Lobelo, may face a motion of no confidence against them at the next council meeting - scheduled to sit before the end of the month.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tswaing has tabled a motion of no confidence against the speaker for reportedly failing in her duties to efficiently preside over council meetings, resulting in the deterioration of municipal governance and service delivery.

DA caucus leader in Tswaing, Kagiso Mangwejane, told OFM News that Lobelo should be removed from her position with immediate effect in accordance with the provisions of section 40 of the Municipal Structures Act.

Meanwhile OFM News has reliably learned that some councillors from the ANC has also tabled a motion of no confidence against mayor Malwane, due to alleged financial misconduct and negligence to inform council of the dire financial consequences caused by the municipal manager.

Mangwejane said the speaker has repeatedly failed to issue council meeting notices and agendas as required by the rules.

OFM News sent an enquiry to office of the mayor. An official confirmed that the municipality has received the two motions, however, indicated that the municipality will only be able to comment after the council meeting.
