The department’s Boikie Mampuru says a prohibition notice has been issued for the whole PC Pelser Building, which houses the department as well as other government departments that include, Statistics South Africa, Rural Development and Land Reform, Office of the Public Protector, and the National Prosecuting Authority. 

Mampuru, in a statement, further explains the building has been temporarily closed to protect the health of officials and clients. He confirms the water crisis has been reported to all relevant authorities and appeals to residents to make use of online services.

Meanwhile, the local Matlosana Municipality is yet to respond to OFM News’ inquiry.

OFM News has in the past year reported on several service delivery protests that ensued within this region with residents blocking roads in demand of water provision and other municipal services.

The water crisis faced in other parts of the province, including Marikana, recently made news when the EFF demanded answers from the Water and Sanitation Minister over incomplete water infrastructure projects.
