NW community members are tired, says DA | News Article

Community members of the North West have been fed lies for years with no service delivery, according to the North West DA member of the Provincial Legislature, Freddy Sonakile.

Speaking ahead of Premier Job Mokgoro’s state of the Province Address (SOPA) on Thursday, Sonakile says he senses a feeling of tiredness and broken spirits from the residents across the province. He says this is due to promises made by Mokgoro and his administration which never materialised. Sonakile said there seems to have been a lack of leadership coming from his office in dealing with the political heads, which are his MECs.

“They (the residents) are tired, and you know with COVID-19 everything is quite a lot for them - to be also suffering from issues such as service delivery. You get a feeling of communities that are tired, communities that feel that government do not serve them. Look at Kgetleng residents, for example, they have created the Residents Association and out of that association they are now doing their maintenance of roads and water supply. They had to do this through the courts,” Sonakile adds.

Sonakile says Mokgoro has failed in his bid to address the issues of service delivery, which are still hampering many in the province.

The community is frustrated. It’s just that it’s not showing in terms of protests or whatever, but they are tired,” Sonakile further adds.
