Agri podcast: Exploitation of farmworkers won't be tolerated - Manopole─── ELSABÉ RICHARD 11:03 Mon, 22 Mar 2021
The MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Land Reform and Rural Development in the Northern Cape, Mase Manopole, has called on improved working conditions for farmworkers in the province.
With the commemoration of Human Rights Day, Manopole indicated that some of the farmworkers are still subjected to unfavourable working and living conditions. The department's spokesperson, Zandisile Luphahla, reports the MEC's comments come after a series of reports which have been recorded by the department, detailing alleged gruesome stories of how badly farmworkers are treated by their employers. Luphahla further indicated that these violations are rife, especially in municipalities such as Phokwane, Siyancuma and ZF Mgcawu.
