Sun might be to blame for outages─── 07:34 Sat, 09 Sep 2017
If you’ve been struggling with your internet or satellite television, don’t immediately blame the service provider.
It might have been the Sun.
Fin24 reports that the South African National Space Agency (Sansa) indicated that a coronal mass ejection (CME) impacted the Earth's magnetic field early yesterday morning.
Two monster solar flares unleashed from the Sun on Wednesday, were accompanied by the CME, which travelled towards Earth at speeds over 1200 km per second.
Sansa says the initial burst of radiation from the solar flares was so intense, it caused high frequency radio blackouts across the daytime side of Earth affecting high frequency communication over Africa, Europe and the Atlantic Ocean.
They’re monitoring the space storm closely with the storm expected to last until this morning.
