Norris claims maiden British Grand Prix victory at Silverstone─── MORGAN PIEK 08:53 Mon, 07 Jul 2025

Lando Norris won the British Grand Prix for the first time in his career after delivering a near-flawless race for McLaren at Silverstone.
In what was a classic British Grand Prix – filled with drama, rain and tension – Norris managed to beat his teammate, Oscar Piastri, to the chequered flag.
Max Verstappen started on pole, but just eight laps in, he was overtaken by Piastri, who showed superior pace – particularly in the corners, where Red Bull struggled for grip.

The young Australian, however, was handed a ten-second penalty for a safety car infringement – a decision that ultimately came back to haunt him when Norris took the lead during the pit stops.
Piastri pushed hard to reclaim the front spot, but Norris did just enough to hold on for the win.
In what was his 239th Grand Prix start, Sauber’s Nico Hülkenberg claimed a remarkable third place – his first-ever podium in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth, around 40 seconds adrift, while Verstappen had to settle for fifth after another difficult outing.

Speaking after his historic win, Norris said that winning his home Grand Prix had always been a dream.
“In the last few laps, I was just looking into the crowd,” said Norris.
“I was trying to take it all in, enjoy the moment – because it might never happen again. I hope it does, but these are memories I’ll carry with me forever. An incredible achievement.
“In terms of stress, this was about as stressful as it gets.”
Norris also praised his teammate for another strong showing, as McLaren secured a second consecutive one-two finish.

“It was a good race for Oscar as well. Credit to him – he was quick the whole way. So, yeah, a round of applause for Oscar.
“He put up a good fight and I really enjoy those on-track battles with him – although I prefer it when he’s behind me, not in front! But that’s racing. Credit to him and, of course, to McLaren.
“Winning at home, in front of friends and family, is pretty amazing – so a big thank you to everyone who came out to support.”
The next stop on the F1 calendar is the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit for the Belgian Grand Prix, which takes place from 25 to 27 July.
