The hosts were off to a fine start when Denver Klue put his side ahead with the boot, making the most of a penalty to put the Ixias  3-0 up.

But Wits would hit straight back, through seven-point tries courtesy of David Cary and Lwazi Monakali. Ruan Wasserman pulled one back before the break, but a third for Wits by Ameer Williams meant that Wits raced to a 25-8 at the interval.

The second half was all Wits as another three seven-point tries – two by Kwanele Ngema and one by Ayabilela Mdudi – extended their lead and ensured a full five log points for their efforts.

Stefan Kruger was the only try-scorer for the Ixias in the second half. CUT never gave up, but in the final five minutes Wits ran in two long distance tries and those 18 points deflated and defeated the host side.
