Loubser grateful for Cheetahs journey despite injury struggles─── MORGAN PIEK 09:54 Fri, 23 May 2025

Toyota Cheetahs utility back, Andell Loubser, will be focusing on his recovery before deciding on the next chapter of his rugby career, but he will forever continue backing the team, wherever they may play.
The 28-year-old is one of six players who will be parting ways with the Cheetahs at the end of June. He has recently been struggling with a hip injury and underwent surgery last week.
Loubser’s three-year stint with the Bloemfontein-based side saw limited game time, as he featured in just 16 matches. At one stage, he impressed with an exceptional goal-kicking record, slotting approximately 19 out of 20 attempts – a testament to his accuracy off the tee.

Speaking to OFM Sport, the player known for his powerful and precise boot reflected on his time with the team, describing it as memorable despite the setbacks.
“It’s been an unbelievable few years in Bloem – great people, great city,” said the Hopefield-born player, who represented the South African Schools team.
“Initially, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but once I got here, my whole perspective changed. The Cheetahs gave me a chance when I’d just returned from Spain, and for that I’ll always be grateful.”
Loubser admits that injuries played a major role in disrupting his time on the field.
“Right now, my focus is on getting healthy. The injuries haven’t been kind to me over the last couple of months, and I’ve never really been injured before. Everything seemed to happen at the worst possible time, but I’m getting there. I had surgery last week, so we’ll see where the future leads.
“I’m excited for what’s to come, and I’ll definitely be backing the Cheetahs wherever they go. I wish them nothing but the best.”

He also shared his appreciation for the local supporters.
“Thank you to the people of Bloemfontein for welcoming and supporting me these past few years. I would’ve loved to stay, but everything happens for a reason.”
Loubser’s contract with the Cheetahs officially ends on 30 June. Joining him in leaving the side ahead of the Currie Cup are Jeandré Rudolph, Rob Hunt, Laurence Victor, Andisa Ntsila, and Schalk Ferreira, who has moved into semi-retirement but may still feature in a game or two in future.
