Live-wire Rudolph and others bid farewell to the Cheetahs─── MORGAN PIEK 07:43 Tue, 20 May 2025

The Toyota Cheetahs’ dynamic eighth-man, Jeandré Rudolph, is one of six players set to leave the team following their SA Cup campaign.
On Saturday, Rudolph played in his 74th and final game for the Cheetahs in a dramatic and heartbreaking 41-38 semi-final defeat to the Suzuki Griquas.
The 31-year-old, who has been a key figure for the Cheetahs since 2020, marks a significant departure from the squad. His exit is arguably the biggest blow to the team, although the loss of hardworking tighthead prop Rob Hunt is also a major setback.
Rudolph played a vital role in the Cheetahs’ 2023 Currie Cup triumph, where they defeated his former team and the then-defending champions, the Pumas, in Bloemfontein. He also spent a stint on loan with the Ospreys in Swansea, Wales.
Speaking to OFM Sport, Rudolph reflected on his time with the Cheetahs: “Yes, like you said, it’s never easy to say goodbye to such a great union and such a great team,” he said.
“I think the last five years have been incredible. I wouldn’t say it was always easy, but they’ve been years I really enjoyed.

“I walk away today as a better person and a better rugby player, and for that, I can only say a big thank you to the Toyota Cheetahs and everyone involved.
“Unfortunately, as you mentioned, this past weekend’s match wasn’t the ideal way to say goodbye. But I’m still incredibly proud of this group of guys, from where we started in the SA Cup to how far we came. I think the boys really stepped up and played well.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can achieve in the Currie Cup and the EPCR Challenge later this year.

“As for my future – it’s still very uncertain at this stage. I can’t really say where I’m heading or what’s next. Not because I don’t want to share – I genuinely don’t know yet.”
Meanwhile, 41-year-old loosehead prop Schalk Ferreira has also stepped away from playing for now. However, he previously indicated that he would take up a coaching role while staying fit and available in case the team needs to call on him again.
The other confirmed departures are tighthead prop Rob Hunt, who is joining the Dragons (Wales), and Laurence Victor, who will be heading to the Boland Cavaliers. Flanker Andisa Ntsila and utility back Andell Loubser are also set to move on, although their next destinations remain unconfirmed.
