Erasmus praises progress as Boks gear up for 2025 kick-off─── MORGAN PIEK 08:23 Sat, 24 May 2025

The Springboks have taken another step towards kicking off their demanding 2025 international season, completing their second alignment camp in Cape Town.
Head coach Rassie Erasmus, who will be in Bloemfontein next weekend, expressed his excitement about the season ahead. The two-day camp included boardroom sessions and an optional gym session on Friday, with several overseas-based players joining virtually. Players also took part in Outfox virtual training to familiarise themselves with the team’s new structures.
Erasmus said there was great energy among the players after he and the assistant coaches delivered a series of presentations. With just over a month to go before the Springboks face the Barbarians in Cape Town – their first-ever clash on South African soil – enthusiasm in the camp is high.
“We’re edging closer to the international season, and while many players still have big games with their clubs, we’re pleased with how both alignment camps have gone. We believe we’re on the right track in terms of planning and preparation,” said Erasmus.
“The coaches have worked hard to refine our systems and build on last season’s performances. It was encouraging to see how well the players responded to the changes. We’ve always said we must keep evolving to stay competitive, and while we know the season will be tough, we’re happy with our off-field progress and excited for what’s to come.”

Erasmus also praised the enthusiasm of newcomers Vincent Tshituka, Ntokozo Makhaza, who is heading to the Toyota Cheetahs, as well as Juarno Augustus, who logged in virtually from England.
“They’re all hugely talented, and it was clear how much the opportunity meant to them. They were eager to engage with the more experienced players, many of whom have been part of the squad since 2018, and to absorb as much as possible from both the players and coaches.”
The Springboks will kick off their season on 28 June against the Barbarians in Cape Town. They’ll then face Italy in back-to-back Tests in Pretoria and Gqeberha, followed by a clash with Georgia in Nelspruit from 5 to 19 July.
