DeChambeau takes control as day two heats up at LIV Golf South Africa─── MORGAN PIEK 07:58 Sat, 21 Mar 2026
Day two of LIV Golf South Africa at Steyn City in Johannesburg delivered another thrilling chapter, with big names rising to the top and the leaderboard beginning to take shape ahead of the weekend.
After an explosive opening round, Friday’s action brought even lower scoring, dramatic momentum shifts, and a growing sense that the tournament is building towards a blockbuster finish.
American star Bryson DeChambeau emerged as the man to beat after round two, carding a superb six-under-par 65 to move to 14-under for the tournament and claim a two-shot lead.

His round was a mix of brilliance and resilience - highlighted by an eagle and a string of birdies - although a double bogey briefly threatened to derail his charge. Despite that setback, DeChambeau finished strongly, underlining his intent to go wire-to-wire in Johannesburg.
Spain’s rising star David Puig sits just two shots back after an impressive 64, while South Africa’s own Branden Grace remains firmly in contention following a solid 66. The pair are in tie for second on 12-under-par.
Grace, backed by vocal home support, continues to fly the South African flag high and will be hoping to mount a serious challenge over the final two rounds. With several players still within striking distance, the individual competition remains wide open heading into moving day.
There was also a significant shift in the team competition. After the all-South African Southern Guards thrilled fans by leading on day one, they were overtaken on Friday by Torque GC, who climbed to the top of the standings at an impressive 36-under par.
The Southern Guards - featuring Louis Oosthuizen, Charl Schwartzel, Dean Burmester and Grace - remain in contention, but will need a strong response over the weekend to reclaim top spot.
Steyn City once again proved to be a scoring-friendly layout, with players taking full advantage of favourable conditions and accessible pin positions. Birdies flowed across the course, reinforcing LIV Golf’s attacking style and keeping fans entertained throughout the day. With scores continuing to tumble, the stage is set for even more fireworks as the tournament heads into its decisive rounds.

The combination of golf and festival energy has continued to draw large crowds, turning the event into one of the standout sporting occasions on the local calendar. Both Saturday and Sunday have officially sold out.
With two rounds remaining, DeChambeau holds the advantage, but the chasing pack - led by Puig and Grace - are well within reach.
In both the individual and team competitions, the margins are tight and the pressure is mounting.
If the first two days are anything to go by, LIV Golf South Africa is heading for a thrilling finish - with world-class golf and passionate home support driving the action every step of the way.
