The NSC supplementary examinations, which used to be written in February and March, have been postponed nationally to June 2019 with the hopes that this will encourage more 2018 matriculants to apply.

Chief Education Specialist: Examinations and Assessments, Molefi Lebajoa, told OFM News the decision was taken to postpone these examinations because an observation was made by the department of education that students who did not make it in the NSC examinations are still not ready by the time the supplementary examinations come around.

Lebajoa further said that they already have applications in from learners but the department is pleased to announce that the Minister of Education has granted an extension for applicants to register to rewrite until the 15th of February. He said that this gives the learners who have not yet applied time to do so and to prepare well.

‘’We as the Department of Education would like to encourage the estimated 15 000 plus learners who are going to write these supplementary examinations to start preparing now. The department has put in place centres in each district that will support learners who are preparing. The learners can also go to their schools to get assistance,’’ Lebajoa said.
