#CoronavirusSA: Infection numbers rise to 1326─── LUCKY NKUYANE 05:27 Tue, 31 Mar 2020
President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the death toll due to the coronavirus disease has now risen to three, as the number of infected also increased to 1326 from 1280.
This now means that there has been an increase of 46 infections. Addressing the nation last night, the president also urged citizens to continue observing the 21 day lock-down regulations by staying at home and keeping safe.
Ramaphosa says the country is entering into a new phase and the government will deploy 10 field workers to carry out a massive screening programmein the country to stem the spread of the virus.
South Africa has the most cases of Covid-19 in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Ramaphosa ordered a 21-day national lockdown, which enters its fifth day today, to try and flatten the curve of Covid-19 infections.
So far 31 patients have recovered from the virus.
