Central South Africa has recorded the lowest teacher resignations over a period of eight years according to the National Department of Basic Education.
The department responded on a written question in parliament about the resignation of teachers across the country. It indicated that in the same period a total of more than 57 000 teachers resigned from the profession. The highest number of resignations took place in 2014 and 2015 during which there was uncertainty relating to the changes in pension dispensation.
In 2014 alone, more than 11 000 teachers resigned countrywide. In Central South Africa just over 1 800 were part of the statistics.
The lowest numbers were recorded in the Free State with 683, North West with 924 and Northern Cape with 247 resignations.
