This, as the ANC has resolved that all its members who have been charged with serious criminal and corruption charges must step aside.

Following the party’s heated National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting over the past weekend, the NEC has also decided that all ANC leaders who face allegations of serious maladministration and corruption must subject themselves to the ANC's integrity committee to explain themselves and the allegations brought against them.

Whilst President Cyril Ramaphosa will be appearing before the committee to answer questions about the funding of his CR17 presidential campaign, Magashule is expected to account over the recent PPE tenders awarded to his sons, and corruption cases levelled against him during his tenure as the Free State Premier.

Magashule's name has for years been marred with corruption allegations, including the controversial Estina and multi-million rand failed asbestos scandal that are both currently under investigation. He has been implicated by several witnesses before the State Capture Commission of Inquiry over the two cases.

OFM News recently reported on contracts with a combined value of R2.7 million in the Free State that were awarded to Motheko Projects and Marvel Deeds, owned by Magashule's sons. It is alleged Tshepiso Magashule and his younger brother Thato benefited from the Free State Treasury to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) amidst the coronavirus pandemic as a result of their father's close relationship with the MEC for Finance.

Whilst the Free State Treasury Department has since defended the awarding of tenders to Magashule's sons, stating that the companies tendered just like any other company in the province and met the criteria, the news has been received with mixed reactions by social media users, and opposition parties calling for investigations.
