South Africa reported 305 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total number of laboratory-confirmed infections to 2 924 622. This increase represents a 0.9% positivity rate.
A further 48 Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, bringing total fatalities to 89 435 to date.
Vaccine hesitancy
The Solidarity Fund’s Doctor Saul Johnson says South Africans should stop thinking that natural immunity will protect them from Covid-19. The country is faced with vaccination hesitancy, and the Health Department and other institutions held a webinar in a bid to change attitudes.
So far, just more than 13 030 588 people have been fully vaccinated. That is about 32.74% of adults.
The government’s target is to have at least 70% of the population vaccinated by Christmas. The government has been aiming to administer at least 300 000 vaccinations per day.
