Phala Phala investigation on track - acting Public Protector | News Article

The Office of the Public Protector says investigations into allegations that President Cyril Ramaphosa violated the Executive Code of Ethics are ongoing.

The allegations are related to how he handled a theft on his Phala Phala farm in 2020 and were started during the tenure of the now-suspended Busisiwe Mkwebane.

The deputy Public Protector, Kholeka Gcaleka, is subsequently acting in her stead and says she has acceded to a request from Ramaphosa for an extension the deadline given to him to provide input on the matter.

"Requests such as the President's are quite common where the Public Protector of South Africa's investigative work is concerned," she says in a statement.

Gcaleka says she has informed Parliament that she will report back on her findings to the Speaker once the investigation is completed.

Her spokesperson says a total of 4 complaints linked to the Phala Phala matter have been received, two of them relating to alleged breaches of the Ethics Code, and two under the Public Protector Act.
