Free State police spokesperson, Mmako Mophiring, alleges that a community member came to the police station this past week to report about the body of a man in the shack next to theirs.

He says that the couple stayed together at Waghuis informal settlement and fought during the night of 30 June 2022, whereafter the victim's body was discovered the following day.

Mophiring says that on arrival at the crime scene, police found a pair of scissors covered in blood inside a shallow hole.

He further adds that the clothes of both the suspect and victim were seized. He also says that while the deceased is well known to neighbours, his name will be withheld until he has been formally identified by his family.

Mophiring says the victim sustained a stab wound on the right side under his shoulder and head.

According to Mophiring, the suspect was arrested and will appear before the Vrede Magistrate’s Court on Monday 4 July 2022 on a charge of murder.
