The South African referee, Victor Gomes, has been rewarded for his outstanding work with another major CAF assignment.

Gomes has been appointed as the referee for the CAF Champions League final between Al Ahly of Egypt and Wydad Casablanca in Morocco.

For Gomes it’s another prestigious honour after having officiated the AFCON final between Senegal and Egypt earlier in the year.

Earlier in the campaign Gomes took charge of a quarter-final and semi-final.

Gomes will also be the only South African referee to do duty at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

South African referees who have officiated Champions League final in the past include Daniel Bennett, Jerome Damon, Petros Mathabela, Ian McLeod and Robin Williams.

Next week Monday’s final in Casablanca kicks off at 21:00.
