Harris, who had been battling with a lower back injury in recent time, needed 2 hours and 18 minutes to beat the 26th ranked Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in straight sets.

Harris served six aces in the match and won 75% of his first serves during his 7-5, 6-4, and 6-4 win.

Harris will next face the Johannesburg-born Englishman, Cameron Norrie, who in his turn beat America's Bjorn Fratangelo 7-5, 7-6, and 6-2.
