Rafa wants to set the record straight in Toronto─── MORGAN PIEK 14:00 Tue, 10 Aug 2021
The 20-time Grand Slam champion, Rafael Nadal, is upbeat ahead of their opening match of the Rogers Cup being played in Toronto.
The Spanish star enjoyed a first round bye on the ATP Tour for a second straight week following first round bye at the Citi Open in Washington D.C.
Nadal will be up against South Africa's Lloyd Harris in his first game. Last week Harris stunned the tennis world by beating Nadal 6-4, 1-6 and 6-4.
The King of Clay, Nadal admits that he hasn't committed to the upcoming US Open yet.
“I am just going to take it day-by-day. My idea is to just play in Washington and here and then we'll see what's going on.
“It's not about matches or results. It's more about personal feelings.
“I am just focus on Toronto now.
“Let's see if I'm able to play a good event here, find the feelings that I want and be ready for what is coming later.”
Harris beat the Canadian qualifier, Brayden Schnur 6-3, 6-2 to book a second outing against Nadal.
Harris and Nadal will battle it out in the second-round on Wednesday.
