Harris into the US Open quarter-finals─── MORGAN PIEK 06:33 Tue, 07 Sep 2021
South Africa’s Lloyd Harris served 36 aces as he beat the USA’s Reilly Opelka in four sets to advance to the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
Harris beat the 6 foot 11 tall American 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 and 6-3 to make into the last eight of the US Open being played at Flushing Meadows in New York.
He also won 92% of his first serve points as he outclassed the American, who is known for his big service game.
Harris says his service game has given him a lot of confidence.
“What an unbelievable feeling this is.
“I thought I played a really good first set. Right from the start, I was returning well, getting on his serves, and throughout the match I served really well.
“After that first set not going my way, I just had to stay confident and kept on building.
“I think I can take a lot of positives out of that match.
“I think I’ve been playing better and better as time has gone on.”
Harris has a tough quarter-final lined up against the world number four and Olympic champion, Alexander Zverev.
