The 14-year-old Donna le Roux from Bloemfontein has won the girls' singles at the Cepha Tennis Junior ITF series tournament being played in the City of Roses.
The daughter of the former Springboks and Cheetahs prop, Ollie le Roux, won the final in straight-sets by beating Celina Joseph.
Le Roux clinched the championship match with a 6-3 and 6-3 win.
The wildcard entry, Le Roux, told OFM Sport that she didn’t expect to do as well as she did, but the victory took her back to when she won the nationals at her home courts last year.
It is very nice to have been able to win the first ITF tournament at my home courts, and it takes me back to when I won the nationals.
Because it was the last day, we could feel that the body was tired and we really had to try hard to keep the intensity up.
We both played really well and I would just like to thank Cepha tennis for giving me a wildcard into the tournament.
It was quite a shock for everyone because I didn't really think that I would win the tournament, but I just gave it my best.
The boy’s final, the 7th seeded Guy Vorwerk beat Ernst Gouws 6-4 and 6-4.
Qualifying for the second of the two tournaments in Bloemfontein starts on Saturday.
The international event at the Stadium courts in Bloemfontein has attracted players from across the world, including the United Kingdom, the USA, as well as, Belgium, Botswana, Egypt, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Lesotho, Luxemburg, Madagascar, Namibia, Romania, Switzerland, and Zimbabwe.
