Harris could be back for SA's next Davis Cup tie─── MORGAN PIEK 07:06 Thu, 22 Sep 2022
South Africa's top-ranked men's singles player, Lloyd Harris, could be back for the country's next Davis Cup World Group II Play-off.
The former world number 31 has been out of action for quite some time after undergoing surgery on his wrist.
Last week, South Africa were relegated to the World Group II Play-offs, following their 3-0 loss away to Bulgaria in Sofia. South Africa was represented in Bulgaria by Raven Klaasen, Philip Henning and Lleyton Cronjé.
On Wednesday, Tennis South Africa confirmed that the next Davis Cup tie will be against Luxembourg in what will be a fourth consecutive away tie.
South African team captain and former world number 19, Christo van Rensburg, indicated that they may receive a big boost in the form of Harris possibility being back in action.
“Luckily for us, on paper, Luxembourg have no players currently ranked in the top 700, so that makes it a little easier,” said Van Rensburg.
“At this stage, we have been building our team up still and hopefully Lloyd Harris will be ready by early next year coming back from an injury.
“We will see how his recovery progress is going and work on the rest of the team to face Luxembourg. Hopefully, he can help get South Africa back to where we belong.”
Luxembourg and South Africa will go head-to-head from 3 to 5 February.
