#Zimbabwe: Tanks and troops seen heading toward Harare─── 18:19 Tue, 14 Nov 2017
Twitter users and several Zimbabwean news organisations are reporting the deployment of several tanks, and other military vehicles in the Zimbabwean capital, Harare, prompting fears of a military coup.
This movement comes amid rising tensions between the government of President Robert Mugabe, and the country's military.
Head of the military, General Constantino Chiwenga warned yesterday that the military would intervene if infighting in the ruling ZANU-PF did not stop. Chiwenga warned Mugabe against purging war veterans from his government, in order to make way for his wife, Grace, ahead of next year's elections. Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, was sacked by Mugabe last week for allegedly showing “traits of disloyalty”.
Several pictures and videos can be seen on social media of tanks heading toward Harare, while local media claims the army has taken over the headquarters of the country's national broadcaster.
