According to spokesperson, Gino Alberts, Luigi Gaigher died in the crash which took place between Koppies and Sasolburg. He was travelling along with Kamohelo Thulo, who is serving at the Fezile Dabi District Municipality, to Bloemfontein for a meeting.

Gaigher died on the scene while Thulo sustained injuries and was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg.

Executive Mayor Lindiwe Tshongwe has expressed her shock and sadness about the sudden and untimely death of Gaigher. She said he devoted his life to serving his community and it was not only a serious loss for his family but also for the community.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 06:30, they found the provincial Emergency Medical Services on the scene. 

Upon further assessment, paramedics found one patient still entrapped in the one vehicle. Unfortunately, the man sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene.

Two other patients were found to have sustained serious injuries. ER24 assisted the one patient on the scene before he was airlifted to hospital by medical helicopter.The other patient was transported to the hospital by a provincial ambulance.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident is not yet known to our paramedics but the police were on the scene for further investigations.
