Predator allegedly spotted at Hartbeesfontein | News Article

The North West police in Hartbeesfontein in Tigane near Klerksdorp has warned residents to be aware of a possible predator, thought to be seen around the town on Thursday morning, 20 June 2019.

Police spokesperson, Aafje Botma, says the police received a call early this morning from a concerned driver informing them about the wild cat, if not a leopard. Botma says although the driver was not 100% sure about the nature of the animal, they urge local residents to not approach the animal and always be extra vigilant. She says the police and the nature conservation authorities are already on their way to the area to search for the animal. Botma says the animal was last seen when it ran into the bushes this morning and he says people should contact the police if they come across it.

This comes a few weeks after a lion was captured in the road between Makwassie near Wolmaransstad after it escaped from its cage. The lion was lost in transit between Wolmaransstad and Makwassie before it was recaptured. A picture of the animal was shared on social media. Police thanked motorists on Twitter who tipped them off about the animal.
