Youth unemployment, the lack of economic growth, and job creation are amongst some of the key challenges set to be addressed by the Free State government. This is according to Premier Sisi Ntombela.

Addressing hundreds of people gathered at the Dr Molemela Indoor Sports Centre for the State of the Province Address (SOPA), Ntombela has vowed to ensure that there is economic development in the province and to ensure that the youth are prioritised. She announced that infrastructure development, the revitalisation of Special Economic Zones, and investment in the agricultural sector remains vital in ensuring that there is economic growth in the province.

Coupled with this, Ntombela has vowed to ensure that all municipalities and government departments prioritise the youth in their procurement processes.

Expressing her concerns over the high unemployment rate in the province, Ntombela alluded that they need to improve the state of education despite the province having achieved the number one position in Matric pass rates.

She alluded that schools under refurbishment across the province will be completed before the end of the year and more teachers are expected to be hired.

Ntombela has further alluded that in efforts to improve the health system in the province and in efforts to create employment opportunities, 100 nurses and support staff will be hired in this upcoming fiscal year.

The Rehabilitation Centre set to be opened in Botshabelo is also expected to create 104 job opportunities.
