'Loan sharks' arrested for Sassa card fraud─── 18:00 Thu, 07 May 2020
Two suspects, believed to be loan sharks, were arrested after they were found to be in possession of over two hundred South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) cards at the Thabong Shopping Centre near Vereeniging in the Vaal.
The arrest follows after the suspects were seen withdrawing money at an ATM.
Sassa spokesperson, Ofentse Morwane, says police arrested the duo after a tip-off was received from patrollers deployed at the mall by the Gauteng Department of Community Safety.
The suspects are believed to be loan sharks who took the cards from Sassa beneficiaries.
The duo is currently detained at the Sebokeng Police Station while investigations continue.
