NW man arrested for illegal firearms─── 11:51 Sat, 13 Feb 2021
A suspect in his late 20’s is expected to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrate's Court soon for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
This follows an operation by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Illicit Mining Team on Friday in Klerksdorp.
The suspect was apprehended after members conducted a search of a shack near the Klerksdorp dumping site.
During the search, fifty-three (53) 9mm rounds of live ammunition and three 9mm pistols with magazines were found.
The District Commissioner of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, Major General Suzette Pretorius, commended the team for the arrest and confiscation of the firearms she said they are frequently used during illicit mining activities and serious crimes.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is investigating.
