In a statement supplied by the DA in Mangaung, residents were warned that water flow will be interrupted for a period of time in the northern suburbs of Bloemfontein. 

Due to a lack of chemicals used to treat the water at the Maselspoort Water Treatment Plant, no water is currently being pumped to the Arboretum reservoir. 

In an interview with OFM News, DA Ward Councillor in Mangaung and spokesperson for water, Rossouw Botes, says once the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality receives chemicals it will take a few hours before they can start with the purification process. Once they start with the purification, it will take a while before they can pump water to the reservoir, and once in the reservoir, it must be pumped to the sub reservoir. Botes says after this, the water will be pumped into the system. It can take a few days before it returns to normal. 

The Mangaung Metro Municipality is yet to respond to questions submitted.

Botes further says “since Monday, no water was pumped from the purification system to the reservoir. [On Tuesday and Wednesdayy] people were surviving on water that was in the reservoir at that stage, but all of a sudden it is empty now”. 

According to the DA in Mangaung, they have informed the metro management of the problem and are awaiting their response.
