Schools vandalised during #NationalShutdown─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 05:37 Fri, 16 Jul 2021
The Basic Education Department is appealing to communities to protect schools as violent acts and looting of stores continues in parts of the country.
Spokesperson, Elijah Mhlanga, confirms schools in KwaZulu-Natal have been damaged in the unrest. He says the vandalism of schools in the province is going to affect teaching and learning when schools reopen.
As the unrest continues in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, Mhlanga appeals to communities in these areas and other provinces to help protect schools.
He adds the schooling system has been greatly affected by the coronavirus pandemic and that further disruptions to schools will have a negative impact.
Mhlanga says there is a high need for all communities to be vigilant and protective of their schools so that all learners could return to schools on July 26.
