Pair acquitted of murdering reformed gangster

───   08:06 Thu, 22 May 2014

Johannesburg - Two men charged with murdering a reformed gangster in Reiger Park last year have been acquitted by the High Court in Johannesburg sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court, The Star reported on Thursday.

Clayton Peacock and Merlin Boswell were acquitted of all charges in the case on Wednesday, as Acting Judge JJ Strijdom said their direct involvement could not be proved.

They were accused of the murder of Bonaventure Brian Maynard, who was killed outside his Reiger Park home in January last year.

Boswell reportedly remains in custody as he has been implicated in the murder of Marvin Jordaan, shot dead in Reiger Park in 2012.

Peacock's father, who declined to be named, said: "They were falsely implicated on 12 charges, and all have been dropped".
Peacock's family claim that gangsters in the area were the perpetrators and had tried to implicate the pair.
