2016 Nedbank Golf Challenge gets facelift | News Article

In just over two weeks from now the 2015 Nedbank Golf Challenge tee off at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City in what will be the last event in its current format.

In a massive coup for South African golf, it has been confirmed that from next year the iconic local sporting event will form part of the Race to Dubai Final series on the European Tour.

This will see the field for the tournament swell from 30 players to a full field of 72, truly turning it into Africa’s Major.

Furthermore, the prize money for a first place finish will increase from US $1 million to a whopping US$7 million.

The tournament will also be played three weeks earlier with next year’s event running from 10 to 13 November.

Mike Vlismas of the Nedbank Golf Challenge told OFM Sport that the tournament’s format will attract even more of the worlds’ top golfers to the Pilanesberg.

“In this year’s field the last player will be secured by winning the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek and that will obviously change as well.

“There is no huge incentive for local Sunshine Tour players and the top players on the European Tour will be sure not to miss either as they build towards that season-ending DP World Tour Championship.”

The 2015 Million Dollar at Sun City will run from 3 to 6 December.
