Mid-Morning Magic’s Yolanda Maartens is joined by Samantha Modisenyane to chat about Feminism Ya Mang currently on at the William Humphreys Art Gallery till 29 April 2023.
Feminism Ya Mang was conceptualized by Samantha Modisenyane & Masechaba Moloi in collaboration with Danai Moputsa, Motlatsi Khosi & Lindiwe Mngxitama. The Feminism Ya Mang Exhibition Tour is curated independently by the conceptual artists with the support of the Goethe-Institut, Polokwane Art Museum, University of Cape Town's Works of Art Committee & Institute for Creative Arts, North West University and the William Humphrey Art Gallery. Feminism Ya Mang, Feminism Yethu, Feminism Yani challenges viewers to examine their own experiences with and conceptions of "feminism" as a term and a movement. The exhibition highlights the wide range of interpretations and expressions of "feminism," just as it acknowledges the various forms and shapes of female identity, both those chosen and those bestowed by society.

“Feminism Ya Mang, Feminism Yethu, Feminism Yani is a visual exploration on how we define womanhood, sexuality, age and feminism” states the curators. These are all key themes when engaging with representations of women in society. The works on display is a reflection of the variety of experiences and expressions that women have in certain environments. Feminism ya Mang explores how women interact with and live in these realities.
