“Pacofs Spotlight” – the latest happenings from the heart of the performing arts in the Free State. What is on stage till 24 June 2023?
The Performing Arts Centre in the Free State proudly presents:
Lefelleng 01- 03 June @ 18:00
‘Lefelleng’ bares a social and historic significance to one’s heritage and ignites questions about one’s origins. In the wilderness where I’m walking many have lost their way. This is an unravelling interrogation toward rediscovering origin. In conversation with your inner self about knowing where one origin comes from because to know where you're going you should first start by knowing where you come from. The story questions the feeling of being confused about heritage and culture.
A human being Died that Night 08 - 10 June @18:00
Based on the best-selling book of the same name by Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela. The play explores Pumla’s extraordinary interview with a former police officer, Eugene de Kock. The stage production is based on a series of interviews between a psychologist and a senior researcher on issues of trauma and forgiveness, Gobodo-Madikizela and De Kock. This is a story about the confrontation between the victim and the perpetrator. He visits De Kock while he serves two life sentences plus 212 years for his crimes against humanity in jail. She wants to understand why De Kock wanted to apologise to the victims’ wives in private after he had testified in public about his role in their husband’s death. Themes such as the complexities of forgiving the other, forgiving self, vengeance, and the power of remorse.
