Artist from Klerksdorp wins grand prize in national art competition─── 09:00 Thu, 14 Dec 2023

The ARTi Gallery in Klerksdorp recently hosted its first annual national art competition with the vision of making dreams come true in Africa. Michelle Thöle-van Zyl, ARTi Gallery Programme Director, joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat.
The finalists in each of the categories were announced early in December with the gala event being hosted on the 9 December. Michelle Thöle-van Zyl proudly shares details about the ARTi gallery's overall winner’s art piece.
Congratulations to Marco Kuhn from Klerksdorp who won the grand prize consisting of prizes and cash to the value of R200,000. This extraordinary piece titled, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow was created with oils on mosaic tiles.
Tiffany Baxter from Mossel Bay was awarded 2nd place with this intricate piece titled, Nostalgic Gamer, created with oils and acrylic on canvas.
Misha Hillier from Riebeeck Kasteel was awarded 3rd place with this piece titled, Vincent Revisiting, which is created with cardboard as a deep relief sculpture.
Arno du Toit from Randburg was the winner in the Digital Art Category for his thoughtful piece titled, Maybe Nothing Matters, created with ProCreate on an iPad with Apple pen.
Sonell du Preez from Klerksdorp was the winner in the High School Category with her beautiful work of art titled, Frida Meets Pablo, sculpted with mixed media.
Mia-Nanke van Heerden from Kestell was the winner in the Primary School with her creative piece titled, Mona Lisa Re-Imagined, created with acrylic on canvas.
