Quincy Mbuso Hlongwa uses everyday scenes and symbolic imagery to tell stories that feel both deeply personal and universally relatable, using his vivid blue and purple figures set against rich, patterned backgrounds.

Mbuso joins Yolanda Maartens in the OFM Art Beat to talk about this full-circle moment for him as an artist, as he no longer has to prove anything in his latest solo exhibition at Oliwenhuis. Oliewenhuis Art Museum presents Uhambo Lwemi Moya, a striking solo exhibition by South African contemporary artist Quincy Mbuso Hlongwa, running from 7 May to 28 June 2026 in the museum’s Annex Gallery.

Translated as The Journey of My Spirit, the exhibition features a powerful collection of figurative paintings exploring identity, introspection, and the emotional realities of modern life. Through bold colours, symbolic settings and expressive portraiture, Hlongwa invites viewers into intimate spaces shaped by memory, vulnerability and human connection.
